This is an installation of “P-noir” exhibited at Robot Expo “Robodex2002.” Industrial design of a new kind, including those of robots, should be planned and made so as to improve the product quality through deepening the relations between a user and a product by bringing out mutual abilities. A sensor detecting human carried on “P-noir” begins to collect information when it reacts to human presence. Then it finds the person(s), reconstructs the situation based on the number of people, distance, etc., and maps them on its inside data of five emotions to express an emotion by moving its face, hands, arms, and feet. It functions in such a system. In addition, moving images are shown in the entire space according to those five-emotion data. When “P-noir” is in a stable mood, the image shows flowing water. When it feels uncomfortable, on the other hand, the image changes to burning fire. This work later triggered further research on the recognition system of robots that operates in the entire space.
