"MEW DESIGN PARADISE” (Fuji television Network, INC)
I took part in the TV program in which a designer was supposed to “analyze, reset, and reproduce” a thing which we usually use but do not always pay attention to. The requested subject was a “bird cage” that was relevant to our life of today. It is somewhat difficult today to live gracefully with a bird kept in a cage. If we consider the earth to be our residence, however, we are living with birds though they are not kept in cages. Based on that idea, I designed a drinking fountain for birds without a cage. If it is placed on a balcony, birds will come to drink water every morning. Looking at them through the window, the balcony looks like a bird cage. As a removable sensor unit is set in the center of the fountain, it gives a signal when a bird comes, and birds’ chirping provided beforehand are heard from a speaker in a bird-shaped ornament. If it is placed beside one’s pillow, the chirping of birds can be heard when a bird comes to drink water in the morning.
