Tatsuya Matsui
President/ Designer
1969 Born in Tokyo.
After graduating in Design from the Humanities Department of Nihon University in 1991, joined the Kenzo Tange Associates architectural office. Later worked in France as a researcher. Participated as a member of the research team in the Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology (ERATO) Kitano Symbiotic Systems program. In 2001, founded Flower Robotics, becoming involved in all stages of the robotics business, from research and development through to sales. In 2014, set up Matsui Design Studio to undertake a broader spectrum of design projects.
Awards include Good Design Award (Japan); ACC Bronze Award (Japan); iF Design Award (Germany); Red Dot Design Award (Germany); 6th Nihon University College of Art Award.
Solo Exhibitions include ‘Tatsuya Matsui: Flower Robotics’ at Art Tower Mito, 2006; ‘The Space of Flowers and Birds’ at the POLA Museum Annex, 2013; and ‘Re:Play’ at Ise Sekiya, 2014.
Visiting Professor at Nihon University Humanities Department, Part-Time Lecturer at Waseda University Engineering Department, Part-Time Lecturer at Seian University of Art and Design, Member of the Good Design Award Judging Panel (2007-2014)
