As the GUI (graphical user interface) design has brought an enormous change to the operation of PC, sound communication methods between humans and machines should have great potential. We thought of generating communication with a human by letting a robot use different sounds out of sound samples filed inside, as a baby tries to convey its wishes in the voice. We considered a device in which a robot creates its unique sounds, and organizes itself according to its own algorithms while making relations with people. The current “Platina” is a prototype and does not carry any intelligent system. Concentrating only on the sound effect, we designed it as a device that communicates with people via sound and light. It is a speaker-type robot with a subwoofer in the stomach and tweeters in the head. The inside LED lights show various color patterns in accordance with sound waves. A hearing-impaired person can communicate with colors.
